Missing People found in Victoria, Austrailia - compiled by Helen D. Harris, OAM. The site contains information found in uncatalogued and unindexed police correspondence files held in the Public Records Office, Victoria, Austrailia. The items were written by people outside Austrailia, to the Victoria police department, in an attempt to locate missing people: long-lost friends or relatives; husbands or wives who had deserted their spouses; suspected bigamsits; and even wanted criminals. Over 2,000 boxes of material covering 1853 to 1940 can contain up to 300 files in each box. Much is routine police business, but interspersed are files on missing persons.
